History & Location
The origins of The Red Lion date back to the 11th Century but the current substantial red brick building is somewhat newer.
The pub is located next to All Saints Church in Freshwater, the church is medieval and is one of the oldest churches on the Isle of Wight, and was listed in the Domesday survey of 1086. There is a marble memorial commemorating Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson in All Saints Church.
The ferry trip to the island from Lymington lasts only half an hour.
